This session will dive deeper into vaccine technology and evidence-based data, highlight the NACI 2023/24 influenza vaccine recommendations and discuss other respiratory conditions such as COVID-19, pneumonia and RSV. The session will review patient counseling and shared-decision making when it comes to vaccine options based on provincial guidelines and evidence-based data.
Learning Objectives
After attending this session, pharmacists will be better able to:
- Recall public and privately funded influenza vaccine options for the 2023/2024 season.
- Interpret guideline recommendations for individuals at high-risk for influenza and the literature findings that support them.
- Recognize how to engage patients in shared decision making to select the influenza vaccine that aligns best with their preferences and needs.
- Describe additional vaccine-preventable respiratory conditions that high-risk individuals should be protected against this fall.
About the Speaker: Tiana Tilli
Tiana received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Toronto. While earning her degree, she participated in advocacy efforts while interning at the World Health Organization (WHO), Ontario Pharmacists’ Association, and St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Uganda. Upon graduating, Tiana completed a hospital pharmacy residency at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. Tiana has held the position of Director of Pharmacy Innovation & Professional Affairs at Whole Health Pharmacy Partners, a community pharmacy banner, where she led the banner’s adult immunization program. This included developing continuing education resources on immunizations and operational supports for pharmacists as well as in-pharmacy awareness campaigns for patients. Tiana is currently a clinical pharmacist and lecturer at the University of British Columbia’s Pharmacists Clinic. Tiana is passionate about optimizing the role of pharmacists and providing patient-centered care.
